SHORTS ON BOOKS: SHORT FILMS ABOUT LIBRARIES – VIII edition
Sunday, May 15 at 3.30 PM at the Hall Professional of the International Book Fair of Turin was held the award ceremony of the Eighth Edition of the International Competition A CORTO DI LIBRI / SHORTS ON BOOKS, organized by the AIB ( Italian Libraries Association) and – for the first time- IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and institutions), in collaboration with Del Vecchio, Gallucci, MediaLibraryOnLine, Umbria Region, under the auspices of CEPELL- Center for the Book and Reading.

The ceremony was attended Fabio Melelli (film critic, president of the jury); Corrado Di Tillio (librarian, representative of AIB and IFLA); the representatives of the Del Vecchio and Gallucci publishers; Lo Claesson, Vaggeryd Library; Stefano Landini, director of the short by Chiarini library; there were also screened video messages by Barbara Lison, director of the Stadtbibliothek Bremen, and Jason LaMotte.
The competition was divided into three sections: fiction, advertising, documentary; the category Metropolitan Libraries, established by IFLA, for public libraries in the metropolitan areas. Among the winners of the three sections was also named the ‘Video of the Year’, edition winner.
Eighth edition was attended by 29 short films: 13 Italian (4 Lombardy 2 Emilia Romagna, Marche, Umbria, Lazio 1, Piedmont, Puglia) and 16 abroad (3 UK; 2 Australia, Croatia, Ivory Coast; 1 Argentina, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Czech Republic, Spain, Sweden), revealing a level of good quality and remarkable creative ideas, which made the jury’s job especially challenging, yet exciting.

The winners received a certificate, books, monthly subscriptions to the digital platform MediaLibrayOnline Plus, free tickets to the Exhibition, reimbursement of travel expenses; the overall winner (video of the year) a prize of 500 EUR; the winner of Metropolitan Libraries a prize of 1000 Euros in video equipment offered by IFLA.

Recall that ‘Short of books’ is the only competition for short films dedicated to libraries and more generally the promotion of reading; during these eight years he has seen the participation of over 120 short films.
